Madrid, ( NTX ) .- The Mexican Secretary of Tourism, Gloria Guevara Manzo, announced today that it presented this week to Spanish businessmen to attract more investment projects in tourism infrastructure in different destinations in Mexico.
The Mexican official on Tuesday began a three-day visit to Spain , which will hold meetings in Madrid and Palma de Mallorca ( Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean ) with stakeholders to promote tourism in Mexico.
In an interview , said that on the agenda include meetings with Spanish tour groups that already have investments in his country , which projects are displayed in Teacapán Pacific Coast , Sinaloa , Huatulco (Oaxaca ) and Loreto ( Baja California Sur).
He said private investment in this sector has had a surge of 28 percent from January to June this year, for the same period in 2009, equivalent to one thousand 833 million dollars.
‘It is important that investors know what we are doing to promote destinations where they have invested , but also present new projects , ” he said.
Guevara said that this is part of a strategy for international tourism , which passes through increasing competitiveness through a single phone number that will help resolve problems of the visitors.
He also mentioned , boost tourism ambassador program with students and facilitate the investment process . ‘This is to bring investors the hand , watch mechanisms and best practices as well as promotion for the destinations to recover their investment , “he said .
He stressed that these meetings are also share the current hotel occupancy data , ‘ because people often know the numbers of hotels, and we want to have the full picture . ”
He said that this year has been an increase in the number of number of rooms and number of occupations , as’ for example in the weeks 33 and 34 of the year reached 2008 levels . ”
He noted that this visit will also hold meetings with tour operators to see programs for Spanish tourism has grown this year , for example, only 58 percent in July compared to the same month in 2009.
He stressed that from January to date the rise of Spanish tourism is 53 percent , “something that has caught the attention ‘ , but is expected to grow further.
He said tour operators with programs to address the various sectors, including luxury tourism “in which Mexico also offers unique experiences ‘ , and the student ‘ in Europe has so much potential . ”
He emphasized that these meetings will also review the traditional programs of sun and beach tourism , and the recently released plan Tourist Routes and Roads Bicentennial.
Guevara said that during his stay in Madrid will meet with the president of the World Tourism Organization (WTO ) , Taleb Rifai, who will review the estimates of activity growth for 2010 estimated for the Americas region by seven percent.
